IST Learning Design

Course Template Model

World Campus courses at IST are managed using a course template model. One master course template is developed and maintained, and each semester all sections of that course being taught are copied from the course template.

This method eliminates the development burden for instructors while teaching and ensures a consistent curriculum for all students taking the course.

See the Course Template Model diagram below.

diagram of how the course template model works - starts at the top with 'Course proposal is approved by the Faculty Senate' then proceeds down to 'Course author is identified and works with the Office of Learning Design (LD) to develop or revise the course (usually over 2 semesters)' then down to the top of a loop starting with 'LD maintains a master copy as the "Course Template"' then around to 'LD populates upcoming course sections with copies of the Course Template' then to 'Instructor teaches the course' then to 'Instructor gives feedback to O-LD' then to 'LD works with the course author to determine what feedback should be incorporated into the Course Template and implement those changes' then back around to the top of the loop.
