VoiceThread helps facilitate collaboration and asynchronous learning. It is a web-based application that allows you to place collections of media such as images, videos, documents, and presentations at the center of an asynchronous conversation. Penn State also has information on how VoiceThread works with Canvas.
How to Use VoiceThread
Penn State has established a university-wide service for this application that you can access at http://voicethread.psu.edu. There are a number of help and support resources in VoiceThread at Penn State site for you to review.
You may access VoiceThread through your Penn State access account. Your ‘My Voice’ page retains all VoiceThread presentations that you have created or participated in.
Saving and Sharing your VoiceThread Presentation
There are a couple of ways to share your presentation with students. Create a group for your class. Then, from the My Voice page, drag the VoiceThread presentation that you have created onto the group’s name and it becomes shared with all members of that group.
If you would prefer not to create a group for your class, you may click on the “Gear” icon in the corner of your VoiceThread presentation, then click on the button labeled “Share.” A number of sharing options are presented. Copying and pasting the link into an e-mail is the easiest way for you to share your VoiceThread presentation with others. For those who would like to include the link within a blog page, look for the “Embed code” that you can copy into that page’s HTML.
Penn State offers tutorials and other information about VoiceThread online.
Tip: Best Practices
Instructors wishing to use VoiceThread should check out Penn State’s Best Practices for Integrating VoiceThread Into Your Class, which covers several helpful tips including information for “Onboarding Students to Use VoiceThread” and “Best Practices for Students Making Comments.” You may visit online.
