Next Monthly Online Teaching and Learning Lunchtime Meeting on October 25
We hope you will join us for our next meeting on Friday from 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. where Dave Fusco will lead a discussion on best practices in communication with students.
If you can’t make this session, we hope you will be able to attend one of our upcoming dates: January 31, February 28, March 27, and April 24.
Note: November and December sessions are not taking place due to the timing with holidays.
The meetings will take place via Zoom. If you would like to suggest an agenda topic, please contact Dave Fusco, Nick Giacobe, or Amy Garbrick. Meetings will be recorded for those who are unable to attend. The recording will be placed in Box.
Canvas Update on October 19
Canvas continues to make updates that replace the mute/unmute and publish/unpublish functionality.
In the Gradebook, look for the word MANUAL displayed in the assignment header to indicate the assignment is set to Manual Posting. If you see the eye with the slash through it, called the hidden visibility icon, then you know that those grades need to be posted for students to see them. We suggest that you verify that your students can see their grades as you intend by opening the Gradebook to view the settings.
The left navigation in your course will also use the hidden visibility icon. More about the changes to the left navigation and the gradebook:

IST Fall Statewide on October 21
If you are attending Statewide from a distance, here is the Zoom room: https://psu.zoom.us/j/717920643
If you are attending the Statewide in-person, remember that the Learning Design team is setting up E132 Westgate Building to allow you to record introductory videos for your courses.
Sign up for a 15 minute recording block between 9am and 5pm with this Doodle poll. If you want to record more than one, something a little longer, or think you’ll need a few extra takes, grab an adjacent time slot or two.
Contact us at ld@ist.psu.edu to send us your script in advance to be put on the teleprompter or with any questions you may have.
