Canvas Updates
The latest release from Canvas happened March 10th. Not all of the updates may apply to Penn State’s usage of Canvas at this moment in time, but we like to keep you updated on what’s happening with Canvas and what you may be seeing or seeing soon. Of note, quoted from Canvas:
Updated Features:
- The Unread button has been changed to a menu, where users can filter between all announcements and unread announcements.
- Announcements can be specified for a specific section or all sections.
Fixed Bugs:
- The number of announcements for an individual search result is read to screen readers once per search.
- When a rubric is set to hide the score total for assessment results, students cannot view the total score in the Submission Details page.

Best Practices Tips: Group Naming
For instructors who set up their own Canvas group spaces, we thought we’d pass along a suggested best practice. When naming groups, include the course and any other identification information in the group name. For example, instead of naming a group space Group 1, consider naming it ISTXXX: Group 1. This naming convention will help students more readily find your course’s group space from their group listing.
