Canvas Updates
The latest release from Canvas happened February 17th. Not all of the updates may apply to Penn State’s usage of Canvas at this moment in time, but we like to keep you updated on what’s happening with Canvas and what you may be seeing or seeing soon. Of note:
Potential Issue with Canvas Email through Web Browser
After the latest update with Canvas, we had one IST online faculty member report they had difficulty using their Canvas email through a web browser. The email drop down was not functioning properly. It was was not pulling up their course through the drop down. The Canvas app appears to be unaffected by this issue, however. Canvas is aware of the issue and are currently working on a resolution.
Read more about the updates directly from Canvas.
Inactive Students in Canvas
Due to a recent Penn State Canvas update, you may have noticed that inactive students are displaying a little differently in your course space. If you are looking to get a count of students without showing your inactive students, you may visit: People then All Roles dropdown. Here you can pick just the Students in your section.

Kindly note that CYBER 100 will be available via the DLC network for the 12-week summer 2018 session. Once we have confirmation that the course proposal for CYBER 100 has been approved (currently it is only available as CYBER 100S), we will notify the DLC and the IST champions. This should be around late March or early April. Keep this in mind when advising students and don’t forget to notify your Registrar to request seats in the course.
It’s Official…We’ve Moved!
Learning Design staff vacated our offices February 15th due to the upcoming first floor renovation. The majority of the staff will be working from home during this time, but will still be available by phone, email, online meetings, and in-person meetings (by appointment). The first floor will be under construction to create a more open, accommodating space. Demolition starts in March and new construction is expected to be finished by August.
