To log into Zoom: https://psu.zoom.us/ and click on the “Sign In” button.
You have two basic options:
- use your own personal meeting room: you can use a customizable URL that is easy to remember, but some people prefer not to give out their personal meeting space since they see it similar to your phone number
- create specific meetings for each office hour session: scheduling meetings creates discreet meeting spaces and URLs for each meeting keeping your sessions more organized, however they will have unique URLs that only point to that one session
If you choose to use your own, personal meeting room:
- customize your URL by clicking on the “Profile” link on the left and select the “Customize link” on the right – you only need to do this once
- you can just copy this URL and then share it with your class in a Canvas Announcement to let them know when you will be holding office hours
- if you want to include more information, click on the “Meetings” link on the left and then the “Personal Meeting Room” tab, and then click on the “Copy the invitation” link to capture more information that you can share with your students; this method does not capture your customized URL – you could copy-and-paste it into these instructions or just use them as-is
If you choose to create separate meetings:
- click on the “Meetings” link in the left, then click on the “Schedule a New Meeting” button under the “Upcoming Meetings” tab
- create a topic name
- set your meeting time and date; if your meetings are recurring, click on this option box and specify the proper settings
- change the video options to “on”
- click on save
- you can send just the URL or the full instructions to join by clicking on the “Copy the invitation” link as mentioned previously and copying-and-pasting that content into a Canvas Announcement each week or whenever is appropriate
These instructions also work in other situations as well. You could use these instructions to invite anyone, even if they are external to PSU, to your meeting session.
