With the University’s move to Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMS) chosen to replace ANGEL, many may be wondering the time tables for the move. Follows is an outline of where things stand:
Canvas Replacing ANGEL Milestones
Below is a list of dates and how they affect ANGEL services:
- Summer 2017 – Last semester you can use ANGEL to teach, but for most people who don’t teach summer courses, the last semester will be spring 2017.
- June 30, 2017 – Last day to create new ANGEL groups.
- Fall 2017- Canvas will be the only LMS available to teach in.
- Oct. 31, 2017 – Last day to access ANGEL Groups.
- Dec. 2017 – ANGEL will be out of service.

How to preserve your content on ANGEL
You can export ANGEL course content package and save the .zip file on your hard drive.
1. Will you be on leave any time between Fall 2016 – Fall 2017? When do you plan to backup your course, move the content, attend trainings? Prepare early.
2. Do you have access to those courses in ANGEL?
If your courses are archived, email angelsupport@psu.edu to request re-activation of your courses. Please include your web access ID (e.g. abc123, not the 9-digit number) course number, section number, year/semester info.
Once you have obtained course access, you can export your ANGEL course content and save the exported file before the end of May 2017. This file will be needed in Canvas.
3. Do you use ANGEL Groups? Substitutes of ANGEL Groups vary, depending on what a group is used for.
Import or Rebuild?
Should you export ANGEL content package and then import it into Canvas, or should I rebuild the course in Canvas from scratch?
We recommend starting from scratch unless you have a large number of online quiz questions in ANGEL. Then just export/import those quizzes.
Rebuild the rest.
Especially if:
You use ANGEL only to disseminate files or email the class;
You have lots of external links to bring over;
You have lots of images to bring over.
You have lots of folders nested inside other folders.
If you want to take another look at the organization of your course content.
