Digital Badges in Education, edited by Lin Muilenburg and Zane Berge, will be released in April 2016. This work covers a variety of topics around digital badges and their applications in education, including several case studies. Penn State University is represented in four of the chapters with Chris Gamrat as lead author of two chapters. Gamrat and colleagues Brett Bixler and Victoria Raish offer a chapter titled “Instructional Design Considerations of Digital Badges.” This chapter reviews designing badges and badge system. The authors have experience in both instructional design and digital badging programs. Additionally, Gamrat and his advisor, Heather Toomey Zimmerman, co-authored a case study chapter, “Teacher Learning Journeys: A Design Case Study of a Learner-Centered STEM Digital Badging System.” This chapter describes the two-year project from an ADDIE Model lens.
